I enjoy urban hiking in unfamiliar cities. Getting absolutely lost in a maze of streets gives me a heightened sense of awareness about my surroundings, and I feel that this allows me to experience things most visitors would never see otherwise. One of the great benefits of taking a tour, almost any tour, is that one gets an overview of a place, its history and perhaps a few facts that are worth delving deeper into. But once the tour is over, I like to walk around and see more of the city. Armed with new information from the friendly tour guide(s), I am anxious to start a new relationship with each neighborhood.
